THE MAAGARI COFFEE PLANTATION CHIKMAGALUR
MAA - GA - RI
The story goes by, back in the day our great grandmother had a hen house and she used to sell eggs produced by them in the local market. This small block of plantation was bought by her using the money from the eggs she sold. Our first generation of coffee planters worked really hard with no amenities such electricity, roads, schools or hospitals. This property is now being run by the fourth generation coffee planters.
How the name was formed?
The plantation had a lot of peacocks. Every day our ancestors used to find plenty of big peacock feathers. In Kannada MAHA "ಮಹಾ" means big and GARI "ಗರಿ" means feather. The plantation got its name MAHAGARI, over several decades the plantation workers cut short the name to MAAGARI.
Nestled in lush green canopy of trees a home to flora and fauna at 3500 ft above sea level lies The Maagari Coffee Plantation. The property is 25 kms from Chikmagalur. Major crops grown in the plantation are coffee and pepper, in coffee there are two varieties arabica and robusta. All the produce grown at Maagari was being sold to merchants directly.
This is a stepping stone for us. We want to provide the plantation experience to our customers and sell directly.
